CEnSE researchers Johan Klaesson and Mikaela Backman have been interviewed in the local media on topics to do with the growth and development of the Jönköping region.

HV71's effect on the Jönköping region

Mikaela Backman, Co-Director of CenSE was interviewed by both Jönköpings-Posten and the local SVT news broadcaster about the effect that the local ice hockey team, HV71, has on the economic prosperity of the Jönköping region. Jönköpings-Posten referred in particular to the report done by CeNSE researchers in 2010 that showed that Jönköping benefits from having a successful local ice hockey team in terms of the local employment it creates, the positive place branding and how it attracts visitors to the city. In April 2021, HV71 lost its playout matches and was relegated from the SHL. The interview with Mikaela Backman on the local tv station SVT focused on how this relegation could have a negative economic effect on the region.

Jönköping region's new development strategy

CEnSE Director Johan Klaesson was interviewed in Jönköpings-Posten regarding the municipality's expansion strategy. He explains that in the 1990s, Jönköping was a prime example of how a city should expand. However, the new strategy needs, in his opinion, to adopt a more modern approach. In the article, Johan Klaesson explains that instead of building on the outskirts of the city, Jönköping needs to exploit its central lakeside areas and to build more high-rise buildings in the city centre to create a natural gathering of people there, which will in turn create a vibrant atmosphere in the city.
