Mattias Georgsson
Mattias is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Gothenburg, a Master degree in Nursing and in Health Informatics from Karolinska Institutet, and a MPH from Karlstad University. Apart from these degrees, he has studied computer science and has a Master degree in Information Technology, specialization Interaction Design and Usability from Chalmers University of Technology. He completed his PhD in Applied Health Technology at Blekinge Institute of Technology in 2018.
His previous experiences include working as a nurse in various functions (such as district, ambulance, ward) and as a research nurse in different medical technology projects. He has also worked as an ICT Project Manager for eLearning and as a Research Assistant and IT engineer within telemedicine and eLearning. Some of his international experiences include being part of a project involving ICT solutions for the support and monitoring of TB patients at the WHO in Manila, the Philippines; and two research fellow visits to the University of Utah, Department of Biomedical Informatics and one to Johns Hopkins University, Department of Health Sciences Informatics in the USA where he performed studies on self-management support interventions for chronic disease patients. Prior to coming to the Jönköping University Mattias held a position as Postdoc in eHealth and Caring Sciences at University West. His current assignments involve being course responsible for courses in eHealth and Informatics on undergraduate and post graduate levels for nurses. Other duties include being a thesis supervisor and examiner.
His research focuses on the use of ICTs, eHealth and mHealth within health care where he has performed evaluations and assessments on mobile health interventions. His PhD specifically focused on patient-centered usability evaluation methods for mobile health diabetes self-management systems. His current research involves effectiveness measures and patients’ perceptions of these technologies in their chronic disease management.
Mattias holds a position as Senior Editor for the Online Journal of Nursing Informatics (OJNI), is a permanent reviewer for CIN (Computers, Informatics, Nursing) and performs ad-hoc reviewer assignments for other journals in the field of health informatics such as the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA) and Journal of Biomedical Informatics, (JBI) among others.
He also holds positions as a board member of the Swedish Nursing Association Division for Nursing Informatics and the European Federation of Medical Informatics (EFMI) Nursing Informatics Working Group. He is a current member of the Emerging Professionals Working Group, Nursing Informatics Special Interest Group for the International Medical Informatics Association, and the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (ISfTeH) Telenursing working group, and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).
