A recent study by MMTC member Imran M Ilyas together with Juha Kansikas (Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics - JSBE), & Alain Fayolle (IDRAC Business school), explores how the evolving needs of engineering students can be met using design thinking. The article emphasizes the importance of equipping future engineers with not just technical expertise, but also with entrepreneurial and managerial skills tailored to meet the demands of a dynamic world. This shift requires a rethinking of traditional educational frameworks, which have often overlooked these evolving needs.
The Need for Change
Historically, the focus of engineering education has been on developing technical skills. - Design Thinking Methodology: Promoting a human-centered approach to innovation, which involves understanding the user, challenging assumptions, and redefining problems.
- Lean Methodology: Focusing on creating maximum value with minimum resources, emphasizing efficiency and customer feedback.
